Science Guy vs God. Let the Battle Begin.

Dear Astute readers.Firstly I address that although the title of this post conveys a hostile atmosphere it is further from the truth. In all honesty it is a marketing ploy which most bloggers use to get that much needed ego-boosting traffic.

Before starting to write I contemplated whether relating my opinion in a vastly religious world would be the best thing to do. But then I thought more on the subject and realised only God can judge me so I went ahead. This article could be considered ideologically sensitive I suppose, so be warned. I’m also bad with disclaimers.

In case you didn't know the debate was between Bill Nye (Educator, Engineer, Scientist and TV icon) and Ken Ham (Young Earth creationist and Evangelist).

The subject matter discussed revolved around the main topics of the creationist tree of evolution as opposed to everything originating from a single organism ,the validity of the events stated in the bible, the age of the earth and methods of proving this among many other things, but most importantly what affect this should have on the education system.
I will attempt to briefly summarise how I feel the debate proceeded.

The Main focus of Young earth creationists is the age of our world. They believe the earth to be 6000 years old based on a book written, rewritten, passed down and translated through the ages. Whereas in mainstream science, experiments have been done to determine the age of the earth to be approximately 4.5 billion years old.

Let us look at fact and logic. Although I would love to travel back in time unfortunately I cannot so the only proof I have that the earth is 6000 years old is a single book written by a man. But what I can do is travel to Australia (incidentally and ironically where Mr. Ken Ham is from). I will journey to Western Australia, specifically Jack Hills where I can find zircon crystals and perform a radiometric age dating experiments to find that they are at least 4.404 billion years old.

Ken Ham states that radiometric dating is fallible but I would assume that scientists would have moved on to better age dating methods or use none at all if they were faulted instead of continuing to use them in self delusion.

He uses an example for which he did not present actual proof that a thousand year wood fragment was found encased in million year rock. His argument is: How can the ages differ? The answer might be tectonic plate movements, where rock layers could have slid over and under the wood fragments and over time encapsulating it between them.

Fundamentally the age of the planet being so young begs the question of how rates of nature were so incredibly rapid in the past and why they have slowed down in the present day and age. For example the tectonic plate movements. As such I believe this to be a flawed hypothesis.

Moving on to the creationist tree of evolution. Ken Ham eloquently puts that instead of a single organism from which all animals originate, that all animals stem from different "kinds" of animals. The term "kind" he says refers to, I believe, sub classes or families. Therefore meaning that according to creationism the classification of order, class, phylum and even kingdom are perhaps moot. Now I don't know much about taxonomy but I believe that they have determined the classifications of order, class, phylum and kingdom through molecular genetic research and experimentation.

For example humans are in the primate order meaning we share incredibly similar genetic compositions with other primates so it is likely that at some point we all descended from a single organism. Going even further into the class of mammalia new relationships have been found linking the different families of mammals. This contradicts the creationist tree of evolution.

Furthermore as Bill Nye says if indeed we were to imagine a young world, given the number of species that exist today:
A) The evolution process would have to be remarkably fast.
B) Dozens of Species would have to be found everyday
 

Sadly neither is the case in the present day. However what is fascinating is that this theory closely resembles a much loved kids cartoon.

In conclusion I fear that Science has triumphed purely due to the lack of evidence and flawed theories presented by the Creationist party and therefore conventional science MUST remain to be in use public schools. 

   All in all the debate is incredibly entertaining and educative and I advise you to watch it.

 

Finally I remind you that religion, although having faults, is and has played a key role in giving hope, a sense of community and inspiring people. It is through patience respect and restraint that we will attain peace and enlightenment.

Well my astute readers you would've guessed by the title that this post is dedicated to our beloved ex-disney star,miss Hannah Montana herself, Miley Cyrus.Specifically her performance on the 2013 VMAs.
It's baffling that this is such a highly discussed topic when there is definitively more important things out there...........however since it's piqued everyone's attention I thought I'd add my two cents to help fuel  the media blaze.

I'm pretty sure everyone who reads this ,has probably  seen the young popstar's "raunchy" performance or at the very least heard of it.For those of you who haven't it involved a lot of hip shaking,movment of rear ends in a very sexual manner and tongue wagging,pardon the pun.

  
Now I have nothing against Miley Cyrus,in general and about the fact that she is growing up . I also understand that she wants to distance herself from that child-icon role,and wants people to treat her like an adult ,however this is just overdoing it.

What bothers me is her blatant disrespect towards her younger fans who are growing up, and that a person would act so sexually on a platform that does not require such lascivious behaviour,there are other platforms specifically designed to accomodate such actions.(PORNOGRAPHY)

I feel it degrades the whole music community that someone thinks that grinding their behind in such a overtly sexual manner is the only way to get attention and be recognised.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind a little provocative behaviour,subtle innuendos are ok in my book. People may say "Sex Sells" and I agree however in this wide spectrum you have to decide where you stand. Are you making a bluefilm or are you making music.We didn't spend thousands of years becoming civilised to rub crotches in public like animals.

Welll that's my rant and my opinion,comment stating your opinion on  Miley's performance at the VMAs.

Age Old Question

Pardon the intentional pun but the topic up for debate today is Age vs. Love. Now I know there are many other controversial issues out there but I'm going to choose one that is close to my heart.In fact this is a problem I'm going through right now.

I'm from a little island called Sri lanka, and in my community age is a huge deal.And the problem doesn't stop there we are also a little sexist among other things,however not all of them are negative.Age is not a problem when it comes to younger women dating/marrying older men;given that the man is not an old geezer.Society all over the world frowns upon such women labelling them as gold diggers,which might or might not be true.
However when it comes to men,dating a woman older than they are is quite unseeming.Here's where my story begins

Recently I've been courting an older lady,not a "cougar" mind you, just older,and when I happen to mention this to a couple of friends they seemed to be quite concerned with how old she was.Her personality,her virutes, her character and even her looks came second to this.Whether we got along was moot. I told one of my friends that Age wasn't a problem and she replied by saying "In real life age does matter".Unforutnately we ended it and I really think age became a factor,not because we weren't right for each other,no; it was society's pressure on it not being the norm that forced her to back out.


The Controversy of the day is does age really matter when it comes to love/relationship? If so at what point does it become an issue? Let's establish some parameters,if there are any;that is all up to you.Leave your comments below or visit  ,and hopefully after I tally the comments we'll have a conclusion.

Life Of Controversy

Hello Dear Readers and Welcome To My Life Of  Controversy.

This is a blog I have decided to start this instant ,because I'm spontaneous like that,to address certain controversial issues,topics,subjects,Insert more synonyms to your heart's content; and upon doing so come to conclusions or in this case solutions of sorts to the afore mentioned controversies based on  public opinion,in otherwords the good folk of the World wide web.

Before moving on a simple disclaimer stating that the solutions aren't personalized advice,any conclusions we come across may or may not work for you as an individual,and may or may not have a negative impact on your life;it all comes down to the situation you are in and other factors that affect your decision and yourself.As the saying goes "to each his own",especially when it comes to decision making. Now that that dreary business is taken care of we move on to the fun part, how this is going to work,assuming it does work and people actually read this blog,which if they don't will result in not only the utter failure of this experiment but also making me look like an idiot speaking to myself,but I digress.
